Story Title: My Cousin Neida
By: Katherine Hawkins Humphrey
When my father passed in 1962, we lived with my Grandmother Watts for awhile. My cousin Neida drove my brother John and I from Muldraugh to Medora Elementary everyday on her way to work in Louisville. I would sit and talk to her while she got ready. Watched her put on her make up and fix her hair. I was 10 years old and thought she was the sweetest and prettiest lady I had every seen. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during these difficult days. I send my love to all of you.

I own Keen Children’s Shoes. Oneida would come in to get shoes for her grandchildren. She was always kind, happy, and sweet. We will greatly miss seeing her smiling face. Many condolences to the family. She will be greatly missed!!

Mr. Sibley, John, Will, Kate and your families, words fall short in expressing my sadness for your loss. Thinking of your wife, mother, and grandmother reminds me of her beautiful smile and warm welcoming way, and fully embracing the gift of life. What a lovely example a life well-lived. I’ve been praying since I heard of the diagnosis and now I am praying for you all–for strength and faith and peace. God bless you all.

I am saddened to hear about Neida’s passing. I met her and John in The Players, and we had such fun creating our newcomers show. Such a wonderful and talented lady. She will be missed.

To the Sibley family….our hearts go out to you at this difficult time.
When we lived in Indiana, and far away from our families, the entire Sibley clan ’adopted’ us as part of their own. We felt like part of the family.
We remember dinners out – The Manor House (who could forget the Bananas Foster?) and lots of evenings at the Sibley house. Neida was always the perfect southern hostess….welcoming and gracious. A role model of how a lady should behave.
The other day we were recalling when we moved from Bloomington to Indianapolis. Andrew was just a few weeks old and we left him with Neida and Kate while we went house-hunting. Neida went out of her way for the event…..getting out the Sibley family cradle and filling it with freshly-washed blankets. I know he was doted upon the whole day. Andrew turned 34 just last week.
Neida will be missed not only by family and friends who were with her on a regular basis, but also by those of us who only intermittently touched base….with a Christmas card or an occasional email.
Please accept our deepest condolences.
